01 / BUILDING THE BRAND
Standing out was the strategy.
Distinctive storytelling, creative leadership and unexpected campaigns helped establishe a challenger brand with a personality of its own.
01 / THE CHALLENGE
When getting there costs more than the getaway.
Rising fuel prices were making everyday driving increasingly expensive. For a low-cost airline built around making travel more accessible, the conversation created a relevant opportunity.
The challenge was to connect Swoop's affordability message with a familiar consumer frustration in a way that felt timely, relatable and distinctly on-brand.
02 / THE BIG IDEA
A little humour goes a long way.
Gas Gag brought Swoop's challenger-brand personality into out-of-home advertising, using wit to connect the cost of driving with the affordability of flying.
Rather than relying on conventional airline imagery or another standard airfare promotion, the creative drew on a timely cultural conversation to deliver a memorable brand message.
The approach demonstrated how a simple, contextually relevant idea could make traditional outdoor advertising feel fresh and engaging.
03 / MY ROLE
Championing creative that challenges convention.
As a senior marketing leader at Swoop, I oversaw brand strategy, creative direction and integrated marketing, working with our internal creative leadership and agency partners.
My responsibility was to help ensure the creative work reflected Swoop's distinctive brand personality while supporting broader awareness and commercial objectives.
04 / THE IMPACT
An idea that stood out.
Gas Gag earned recognition for its creative approach to out-of-home advertising. The recognition highlighted the campaign's strength as a distinctive example of challenger-brand outdoor creative.
THE TAKEAWAY
Relevant beats complicated.
Gas Gag reinforced the value of connecting a brand's core proposition with something consumers already care about.
When the insight is strong and the creative expression is simple, even a familiar advertising medium can deliver something unexpected.
Sometimes the smartest brand message is knowing exactly when to join the conversation—and having the confidence to make people smile.
